The aim of PARINT is to provide
resources, guidance and support for authors, editors and expert
reviewers of research into dependence (addiction) on licit
and illicit drugs including tobacco and alcohol, and its relationship
to other addictions such as gambling.
The site is aimed primarily
at researchers and would-be researchers in countries and institutions
that do not have a lengthy tradition of research to international
standards. It is therefore intended to aid the spread of new
research results across national and language borders.
At present there are more
than 75 medical and scientific journals in 18 languages primarily
devoted to the dissemination of scholarly information concerning
drug dependence and its related social and health problems.
The main purpose of the website is to provide a tool for the
authors of papers in these journals and for the journal editors.
It is also a useful channel of information for the general
public. It enhances global efforts to curtail addiction and
substance abuse through the promotion of international communication
within addiction science.
This focus determines the
content and design of the website that will include links
to scholarly journals from all over the world, across regional
and language borders. This will be particularly important
for the international recognition of research published in
non-English language journals. The scope of PARINT is indicated
by the links on the menu at the top of this page.
