The annual budget of ISAJE (about £25,000)
is financed regularly by membership fees and donations. Membership
fees are paid by full members, associate and corporate members.
Full membership with voting rights is open to
staff of peer reviewed journals which fulfil certain quality
criteria. Associate members are other individuals; corporate
members represent organisations which support the aims and
objectives of the Society. Several publishing companies currently
belong to this latter group, contributing to the regular annual
budget (by corporate membership fees or donations) about 11-12
%. These members have no voting rights and no other form of
influence on the work and decision making of ISAJE.
In addition funds are received from time to
time for specific activities, e.g. a contract with the US
National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) for the development
of a website for authors, editors and reviewers. In addition,
NIDA and the US National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
have supported the development of an online tutorial for young
authors on scientific publishing and publication ethics. No
form of influence is agreed upon the work of ISAJE.
The work of the Executive Officer is subsidized
by the Society for the Study of Addiction (SSA) through an
in-kind contribution of a part-time staff position at ADDICTION
journal. An annual pro-rata payment is returned to the SSA.
The Executive Officer is appointed by the board of directors
to give advice and to serve ISAJE's needs, but is neither
a voting member of the board nor of the Society.
