Prof. Dr. Gerhard Bühringer
Prof.
Dr. Gerhard Bühringer was born in 1947, and is married
with three children. He studied psychology at the Universities
of Mannheim, Munich and Tübingen. He received a diploma
in Psychology at the University of Munich in 1973, and a doctorate
at the University of Tübingen in 1981. From 1973 until
1987 Director of the Addiction Research Group at the Max-Planck-Institut
für Psychiatrie, Department of Psychology Munich, since
1973 Director of the IFT Institut für Therapieforschung,
Munich, Germany. From 2002 until 2005 Professor at the University
of Constance. Since August 2005 Gerhard has been Visiting
Professor for Addiction Research at the Technische Universität
in Dresden, Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy.
Gerhard's main topics of research are epidemiology,
etiology, prevention and treatment of substance use disorders
(alcohol, illicit drugs, pharmaceuticals and tobacco) as well
as in the field of pathological gambling; evaluation of treatment
programs, treatment facilities and treatment service systems,
public health issues; basic research on change processes during
onset and cessation of substance use disorders.
He sits on a number of scientific advisory boards
and management boards of German and international associations
in the field of addiction research; and on editorial boards
of German and international scientific journals.
