Reviewers Needed from Low and Middle Income
Countries
Announcement
Researchers from low and middle income countries
are underrepresented among scientists who contribute papers
to or review articles for journals in the addiction field.
Also, few of them currently serve as members of the editorial
boards of these journals.
There is increasing recognition among editors
that scholars in these countries can contribute their unique
perspectives and expertise on local issues to the mission
of these specialized journals. At the same time these scholars
can derive academic benefits from the exposure gained through
participation in the editorial process of these international
publications.
The International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE)
is developing a database of researchers in low and middle
income countries that editors can invite to review papers
and provide other scholarly services to their journals. ISAJE
seeks to identify qualified researchers in these countries
who are willing to contribute in any of the following ways:
- Review papers submitted for publication to addiction journals.
- Write book reviews.
- Serve as a members of the editorial board.
Interested researchers should send their CVs
including a comprehensive list of their publications. The
following information should appear in the CV:
1. Full name
2. Current Position
3. Institutional address
4. Phone and fax numbers
5. E-mail address
6. Areas of research competence (e.g. epidemiology, pharmacology,
policy, cultural issues).
7. Editorial board membership(s) and journals for which
you have reviewed previously.
This information will be considered for inclusion
in a database that will be made available only to editors
of ISAJE member journals. Journal editors will be responsible
for the decision to contact any researcher for an assignment
or to request contributions to their journals. All submissions
will be assessed by ISAJE and the society reserves the right
to reject the application of anyone deemed unqualified for
inclusion in the database.
ISAJE was "established to promote excellence
in the communication and dissemination of information on addiction
and related sciences within the scientific community and to
those who have responsibility for the prevention, treatment,
cure, professional training and policy formation in this field."
The society encourages and supports increased participation
of professionals from developing countries in research and
publication on addiction science.
